RSS Feeds

I enjoyed this exercise a great deal. However, I must confess that I have been back to my account rather infrequently. I have a wide variety of interests. As a result, I went a little hog wild on my list of feeds early in the Quests. Also, as a result, the overload led me to become overwhelmed. I think RSS feeds can be especially useful in scientific areas. Normally, I would not think of these feeds as professional development tools. However, in scientific fields, knowledge can change at a rapid pace. As a result, you can keep ahead of recent developments. That was a good yet frustrating experience. I just spent the last ten minutes trying to figure out how to display my RSS feeds in my Bolg. The big problem was trying to figure out my User Name as opposed to my e-mail Account. I figured it out. Now, I will never forget. In addition, I plan to check out my feeds at least once a week to see what is happening. I enjoyed the Quest all in all. I am listening to Pandora as I cross the finish line....

You Tube and Podcast Junction

This is one Quest that I had a definite handle on. I watch you tube clips on average of one hour per night. My wife watches television. I generally do not (except Simpsons and Jeopardy). While my wife watches TV, I view youtube clips. I look for musical clips and old comedy clips. the nice thing is that an old show of band can pop into your head and you can be viewing a clip within 30 seconds. Fot this Quest, I had a problem with the videos skipping as warned. I looked at a few of the old commercials as suggested. I also tried to watch a 2007 video of the band the Cult since they came to town this past weekend.Instead of wondering how a band sounds live these days, you can use youtube to view recent shows to help you decide wether to go or not. I did not go because the Cult was charging $42.00. $25.00 yes. $42.00 no. However, the video kept stalling. I cannot say enough about youtube, I use it everyday. I did not have much experience with podcasts. I tried Podcast.Net. However, I found all the sites difficult to search. In fact, I went to Google to locate a podcast with Rudy Sarzo on Musician's Corner. I did not realize that Rudy Sarzo was from Cuba. His family left in 1961. I was disappointed that I could not fast forward the podcast. I did not care for Podcast Alley. Killa set of Quests. Zuuppp..... I found a 31 minute clip on Google Video. I wouldn't watch that. I included one of the first clips I found on Youtube. It is a killa clip of Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. You may know him as Snowman from Smokey and The Bandit. However, Jerry Reed is one of the best Country Guitar Players around.. same for Chet.

I Posted Direct The Edited from Untitled

Greetings!! I am somewhat curious about the benefits of Zoho Writer and GoogleDocs. I imagine it will somewhat eliminate the need for creating attatchments to e-mails etc.. Also, you won't have the problem of switching between Works and Word. I had trouble accessing my GoogleDocs Account. It wouldn't accept my password. I felt like one of our many patrons who have the same difficulty. I did notice that entering your password twice was not required with Google. Perhaps the old ways are the best ways. I intend to fiddle a bit more with these applications. The previous sentences were created in ZohoWriter. I posted directly to my Blog. Nice feature!!! However, it was listed as Untitled. A little practice will allow for mastery of the direct post. I do like how you can enter your Blogger password and send a document straight to your account. Have a killa day y'all.....

Wiki Wiki Wiki Old School Rap

I don't care for Wiki's. I use Wikkipedia to gather information for myself. However, I never give patrons information from Wikkipedia even if I know it is accurate. I fear that someone will look at the Wikkipedia heading and think less of the library. The patron may have only heard about the discrepancies and bemoan the state of the Reference Desk at libraries today. However, I do like the idea of a Wiki for a conference. As shown in the example, you can get solid advice from people that know a particular city well. Beware Restaurant reviews. Different strokes for different folks!!! Wikki's have a place. If we wish to share information I prefer a Blog.

My Space is Your Space

I created a MY Space account last year. I checked it a couple of times and then I kept getting Spam friend invitations. I checked back on my account and was pleased to have a message from an old college roommate of mine. I have tried to search for him online several times to no avail. I have not spoken with him since 1994. That was killa!! I did not care for Bebo. I set up an account. However, I did not create a profile. I do not think I will. I did not find the search feature very friendly. I looked for several people and groups with limited success. I do not like that site. I mean that the whole layout and vibe of the site bugs me. My profile in Facebook is bare bones. I hope to fill in the information with a beverage of my choice in the near future. I enjoyed the layout. I can see myself using My Space and Facebook. However, I do not imagine that I would be a constant visitor or user. In other words, I do not foresee checking my accounts with the frequency of my yahoo e-mail account. I do not like Friendster. Again, something about the layout. If I feel more comfortable using both MySpace and Facebook... why would I use Friendster? I finally switched over to Google Maps because Yahoo Maps was driving me crazy. I had always used Yahoo Maps and continued out of habit. However, I much prefer the speed , ease of use and hybrid feature in Google Maps. My point being that you should go with an interface that you enjoy. I can foresee using LinkedIn. It seems to be career oriented. In other words, it serves a different purpose than My Space or Facebook. LinkedIn is the "work" site and the other two are a beer in front of the computer type. I hope to find some long lost folks in Facebook!! ZZZUUpp!!!

A Flickr is a Woodpecker

Within Flickr, I found an awesome picture of Alex Van Halen's Drum Set. http://www.flickr.com/photos/markscott/114369330/in/photostream/
However, along with that photo was a series of Classic Car Photos. Above the Photo(s) was mention of The Peterson In Los Angeles. I thought " is this a car museum..a rock museum or
what? I was hoping for an explanation within the post. However, I did not see one. I opened another window and did a search for "museum" "los angeles" "peterson" and discovered that it is an Automobile Museum . However, the show I saw was Cars and Guitars which has apparently been held over till February 2008. I do find it funny that they included Alex Van Halen's Drum set in a Car and Guitars show. I must admit I was entertained and also angered by the comments underneath the drum set photo. Everybody was ripping Van Halen apart and comparing their sound with REO Speedwagon. I can understand the dislike . However, I strongly disagree . Classic Van Halen does not sound like REO Speedwagon. This is a scientific fact. I really like the poster behind the drums. I would like to have it for my room. I did find a killa shot of Elvis's Pantera on the actual Peterson sight. http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?DocID=1014&cat=Cars%20%26%20Guitars%20of%20Rock%20%26%20Roll%20II&ExhibitID=440&index=4 It was funny. After Alex van Halen's Drum Set, the photo didn't have captions. There were a series of famous guitars. I could guess some of them. Other, however, I was unsure of. You could see the information on the display case in the shots. however, they were too far away to read. Again, on the Drum photo captions, several people (many I think must have been from Great Britain or Australia, they said mates a lot) were tearing into Van Halen. I thought about post a comment talking about how great Van Halen is compared to REO Speedwagon. However, it would not change the posters' minds. Also, I do not feel that Old-School Van Halen needs any defense. The proof is in the pudding!! ZZZUUUPPP!!!!

Technorati Masserati

Not so much interest on this site. I was interested to see what Blogs were the most popular. I did notice different results in the advanced search mode. I was not surprised by this fact. When I am on the Reverence Desk I always try to employ different search techniques when ever possible. I did find a killa Blog in Spanish with a copy of the Van Halen show in Philadelphia on October 1st. I saw the show in Greensboro 2 days earlier and was impressed at how fellows in their early to mid-fifties could rock out. However, I do not foresee myself using this site a great deal. I prefer Delicious. I do not care to read too many Blogs.
